I struggled with what container to put the two tiles and easel in, most hid too much of the tile. So was in TJMaxx and saw this great lucite tub...

I am thrilled with this presentation. The orange is dollar store table clothes. Now I only need to shrin wrap and it is complete. FYI, the paper is a certificate for a custom family name tile. I am valuing this basket at 100.00.

This is the first tile I have made for this summer's church picnic. I am also going to include a 'coupon' for a personalized tile with style options of split letter, or monogram with name at bottom. This one started as a purchased file but the letters following Christ were too fine and I kept losing them as I weeded. So I went into SCAL and redid it a bit stronger and shadowed. It worked much better for me then, but I still find the outdoor vinyl to be trickier than indoor vinyl. It is much 'stickier'.

Here is the tile that was 'ordered' from the International Festival. One of my own students was the winner and she and her mom said it would be a Father's Day Tile. Dad is in the Army, so this will be for him. While it looks like the vinyl is brown - it is black. This is a 12 X 12 tile. I created the design in Sure Cuts a Lot.

Didn't really want all of them in my own name, so made one for a good friend to pass along to her son and his family. The first is a file from My Vinyl Designer. Here are some photos of the birthday group. My GD , Delaney, is in the second row - right side with the pink boa. Foods served where hot raspberry tea, or hot strawberry chocolate (pink) and little tea cakes - raspberry swirled pound cake, chocolate mini-cakes in pink cupcake holders, pink smiley cookies. Napkins were 'found' tea towels (Ross or TJMAXX) and homemade Mazzanti's ice cream (the family business) Decor was pink tulle and 'pearls' in the chandelier and on the table runner.

Used plastic champagne glasses from the dollar store - hot pink and black vinyl and some of the ZEBRA print Duck vinyl (harder to cut for me) used E6000 to glue on the 'pearls' and the studded pink ribbon. Put battery operated tea lights in them. Hope the 9 year olds like them!

Stumbled upon these big black buckets at the Dollar Spot in Target and knew we had the makings for some super bowl decorations. Used SCAL (Sure Cuts a Lot) and my Cricut to deck these bowls. I now need to either find a plastic bag to fit in it --- or simply use them as beer coolers filled with ice. don't trust plastics from China for food storage!!! Cute none the less!!! GO STEELERS!!!

Did a bunch of cricut tiles for Christmas gifts and barely took photos of any of them! Here is today's project a wedding tile 12" x 12" for my son's best friend. I used SCAL, Design Studio and lots of Calligraphy cartridge images for this one. Used three colors - black, admiral blue and gold. Hope they like it!

We had some outgoing board members in our professional organization and we wanted to give them a bit of recognition beyond a document in a frame. I volunteered my Cricut, some tiles, the tissue method with their informaiton and then some vinyl. Each is individualized , all coated with Mod Podge. I got the easel backs for one of them , and contact cork on the others. Sawtooth hangers placed on with E600 glue (that stuff rocks!) Thanks to these three for

their dedication.

My grandson LOVES Orange...

Chester LOVES orange. So as they are (finally ) getting ready to move into their self-build house, knew he needed to have a big boy reading lamp. I was in TJ Maxx this week and they had an orange lamp, but knew he needed one with a bit more pizazz. So got out the cricut vinyl and this is the outcome. The shade is thick enough that the designs don't show until the lamp is on. I did each side of the shade differently - one in cowboy, one in pets, one in outdoors, one in transportation.

I still am debating if I should add the word READ by the star... and maybe a few stars on the shade. What do you think?

His entire room is done in orange and deep blue with construction caution tape (also Cricut) separating the two colors. We put decals of construction vehicles, John Deere tractors, planes and space ships on his walls.

Crafting as chaos...

when I am knee deep in a big project, I love to have all my crafting items spread out around me. Not a pretty picture, but it works for me. Stickles, Cricut, cricut gypsy, chipboard, pretty papers all spread out to select just the right combinations. Well, it is time to clear that chaos again. Just completed THREE chipboard books for our church's summer picnic chinese auction. I went with Faith, Family, Friends as the titles.
These are my first gypsy projects and I liked how simple it was to get the elements I wanted without the cartridge changes or the jukebox.

I wanted a celebration of life card for a friend's mothers death. I struggled but ultimately came up with this one. used MS border punch, cuttlebug embossing folder for heart. Some very thin ribbon threaded through the eyelet punch and then ATG glued the pink onto the black organza sheer ribbon. The flowered paper is from one in my stash and is highly embossed. Found myself praying for her family when I was weaving the ribbon so this is a heartfelt card.

This is a card I did for a friend's father who is celebrating 90 years soon. She wanted to shower him with unique cards. I used travel stack from DCWV , my Cricut and then dotted around the letters for defination.

These coasters are made from

ceramic tiles - 4 inch size with tissue paper photos ! Then mod podge and seal. I simply wrote the info on the tiles with a sharpie. These are backed with self adhesive Contact cork. According to my friends on the Cricut.com board these hold up great. Next attempt will involve the cricut and vinyl and photos. My crafting friend Jolene did hers in black and white photos and vinyl - also a great look!

My good crafting friend , Debbie, got me started on these. Last week I got really motivated and made a mess of these to give to teaching colleagues. Start with the acrylic easel frames - first batch from M's for 1.99 then went to WMart and found them for a buck. They are a great way to use up scraps of pretty papers!

I simply put them all out on my teaching table and folks picked their favorite.

They really did like them!

Here are photos of the crafts for Dana's shower this Friday. The storybook quilt is made with all the favorite books of the teachers in my building. Each teacher then decorates a square and I quilt them all together. I found a nice dark blue bin and added vinyl with some cuts from A Child's Year from Cricut. Also made a name wordbook.

I just got some vinyl from Vinyl Expressions. Shipped well and I can't wait to use it this weekend. I have two big projects. One is to trick out a deep blue container to hold the baby quilt I just completed. Item two is to make some items for a 5th grader to place on her hospital wall. She is struggling with an autoimmune disease and suffering some awful pain. Stay tuned , I will post the photos of these weekend projects soon!

Actually I am anticipating it's return any day now. I found a repair shop for my Sony digital, and shipped it off. Our amusement park trip to Kennywood and ride on the raging rapids managed to fry the lcd screen. I truly am going through camera withdrawal... I find I reach for it when the grandkids come to visit, at school, and with October and fall leaves starting I am really feeling it! I even priced out new cameras but couldn't see forking out 600 plus dollars when it is likely to get repaired for under 300.00. I am a bit nervous but the testimonials for this company are good. Really surprising how different our 'contacts' are with web 2.0 isn't it?

Our state affiliate is hosting a national convention for National Council of Teachers of English in November. We have a special affiliate breakfast and a friend and I are doing favors for that. Here is a sampling of the favors we are making with our Cricut. They hold a few patriotic mints. These pillowbox favors with the swirly cut window, and then are cuttlebugged with either Swiss Dots, swirly, or traffic squares. Notice the difference in the ones with clear plastic and the ones with vellum behind them (ran out of plastic) I like them both actually. There is a good video on youtube featuring this pillowfolder. So far I have one hundred of these done, have cut another 50 today. We have to make over 350 total.

Let Me Show You How to Do That is the online cricut class hosted by Jen C. and Diane (Capadida) I took their wordbook class today and got some great tips to make books a bit better and a bit easier. Even better was the opportunity to see right over their shoulder with shared screens and the chance to ask questions. They went step by step through a FAMILY album and then showed some other great ones --- PLUS shared the files for three wordbooks at the end. Well worth the $15.00 imho! My take on the gift card cupcake

My MIL kept having folks keep her Rubbermaid. I told her I could remedy that. Gave her deviled egg container a spiffy monogram!

Now for my longest project to date...

I FINALLY finished the gift card cupcake that I wanted to add to Amanda's Graduation Party. I had seen this on youtube and wanted to put my Cricut to work on it. Cut the 6 " circle in cardstock. Did the flowers from Plantin Schoolbook in orange (A's favorite color) an even pulled out my old hot glue gun. I didn't want to give her a gift card - figured that cold hard cash could be more useful. So I once again used the plastic from the cartridges and made a little plastic sleeve that will help the greenbacks slide up and down like the giftcard. This project DID take a lot of time - I would estimate roughly 5 hours off and on but I was doing two at once. The second one I did not use ANY ribbon as recommended in the video only the wet paper technique that the whipped cream is done in. This one has yet to get the 'whipped cream/binder clip/cherry to hide and hold the gift card. No bling here either.

Ice Cream Banner - partly premade!

wanted to work in vinyl to craft an outdoor decoration for DIL 's family ice cream store. Costing out the vinyl to make pennants became pretty steep so opted to purchase online a vinyl pennant from a PA company. Believe it or not I placed the order YESTERDAY and they got it to me today about noon . Online Stores in New Stanton , PA rocks!!! Anyway this premade pennant banner left me with only 12 ice cream cones to cut and apply. Hope you like the results!

This is the 29th quilt I have made. Each teacher contributes a square and does it and gives the book to the parent to be at the shower. I quilt them all together. It is now a strong tradition

in our building. (PS - some choose to use transfer paper in the computer instead of painting)

The one for Are You my Mother and the one to the left are acrylic paint+texturizer.

Here is the table bouquet I did for the Fourth of July. I am wishing I had painted the skewers before hand. I will likely do that quickly tomorrow PM and throw some red over the floral foam. Most of this was cut with Base Camp, Graphically speaking (LOVE that Freedom jumble!) with just a few cuts from the new Stand And Salute that came in the mail just this afternoon. This was the first time I used vinyl and it was wonderful sure won't be the last time I use vinyl!

TILT... in Design Studio

Did you know that you can tilt your work in Design Studio? This comes in so handy when you want to weld letters for word books and are working with one with a 'wide top' and skinnier bottom (t) In the lower left corner of the letter you are working on (or element) you will have a curved double ended arrow. Use that to TILT your placement. Great fun and keeps thinking from getting too static. Plus if you know me, I prefer tilts and curves to straight lines anyway!

Also I just figured out I can use Graphically Speaking FRESH word and implant 'Man" to make FRESHMAN for the University book. Good thing I have it 'done' --- of course it is hard to keep my hands off it... keep wanting to add more to it. Poor Amanda would have no place for her photos or memory tags!

seemed like I couldn't get moving on a graduation wordbook, so figured that one with the University name might be more useful at this point! Amanda is having her grad party in July, so thought I could get away with making a university album rather than a grad gift. I also added some "Questions to Ask" about your family history from ancestry.com that I figured could nudge conversations with roommates and new acquaintances. A great tip - sometimes the open letters of a wordbook get a little tipsy... so I cut some of the plastic from cricut packaging and made a clear back up for the G the double n's and the final n to give them greater structure. Barely visible even with the flash and makes a better project.

Freezer shirts with 7 year old

Wanting to try out the freezer shirt method from the Cricut messageboards. GD , age 7 was down so we first did the favorite animals shirt with giraffe on the front and elephant on the back. Then she was curious about design studio so we got going and put seven ice cream cones along with her name and two sparkly hearts. Notice the cherry stems freehanded? gotta love it! We did talk about how wearing a shirt with your name on it might not be a great idea... and she totally got it! For the ice cream shirt we used doodlecharms, and Plantin Schoolbook. Zoobaloo for the giraffe and elephant. We used acrylic paints with Fabric Texturizer (also sold in the acrylic section) as our medium with some detailing with sharpies.

two more altered art journals

Here are two altered journals that I made for my assistants at school. Used graphically speaking for the majority of the cuts. These go together fairly quickly. I could see altering a few of these and leaving a spot for the personalization. They could even be modge podged except for the name then only need a few hours before hand to finish them off.

Scored big with a trip to Michaels this weekend. They had deeply discounted many little journals so inspired me to do altered journals for my end of school gift for my Reading Support students. At 29cents apiece how could I say no? Truly I could not have made them with my bind it all for this cost. So I suggest you check for those if you go in. I used Cricut Zooabaloo, Doodlecharms, with lots of Stickles , M's ribbon and some from my stash. I wanted to give them something to remember to read and WRITE all summer long. Hope these do the trick!

I have been busy crafting. Made a storybook quilt and wanted a great presentation box so got the Cricut and New Arrival out. Here are pictures of the box and then coated the whole thing with Mod Podge.

if you have ever scrolled clear down on my blog you will notice that I modeled my Blog title on Mike Lange's Shoots and Scores call for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Well they are hot on the ice right now so wanted to say GO PENS. I have been doing some Cricut crafting involving decoupage. These will be ready to reveal soon.

I couldn't remember how old my "Baby Brother " Jim was although I had a ballpark idea... solved that problem by using a bit of the plastic from those Cricut cartridges to make a changable year.He had a good laugh with that one! The majority of this card was cut with Paper Pups and zooabaloo. The motorcycle card insert is for a gas gift card.
